Office Craft room/Office Chair makeover with ASCP...

Hello Crafty Friends!!

It's a gloomy rainy day here today.  Woke up at 4am to thunder and lightening.  A while later, huge downpour.  Not complaining, we need the water here in CA, but I was enjoying working outside these last few days.  :)  Oh, well.  Got me to finish my office chair.

I'm really missing my old craft room.  Haven't gotten the new one together yet as we always have something else to work on first.  Ugh!!  (Maybe next month.  ;) LOL!)  I loved the color in the old craft room, it was called Green Tea and it is a very soothing yet help me be creative color.  Recently I found this fabric at Walmart and it became the inspiration for the new craft room/office.  I won't be able to paint my walls here (as they are already painted and the craft room/office is part of the main area of the great room in the new house) but I can bring in that Green Tea color in fabric and accessories I love so much.

One Farmhouse table reno complete!!

Hello Crafty Friends!!

FINALLY!!!  I have my dining room table reno into a farmhouse table complete.  :)  Yay!  Just the table mind you.  Still have 4 chairs to finish.  LOL!  I did buy to fabric covered chairs to take the place of the end chairs.  Got to love Wayfair.com  And they match our living room decor perfectly.

I have lot's of pics to share, so brace yourself...hehe!

STEP ONE: Find a used table and chairs (or redo your own if you have one).  This one had a leaf which I was thrilled with because I wanted a really long table.  I found this one on a local online garage sale site on Facebook in my old neighborhood.  SCORE!!! 

STEP 2:  Locked on the leaf and then painted the base with Annie Sloan Old White Chalk Paint and waxed with clear.  Sanded lightly and then waxed with a mix of light and dark wax.  Polished up with the drill motor and a round brush attachment.  

STEP 3:  Attach pine boards.  For my table I used 3 10x8's and 2 8x8's.  This gave me some

over hang to widen the table about 6" and lengthen it by about a 1'.  We trimmed off 3" from each

end.  We also countersunk the holes about 1/4" and filled with

some oak putty I had laying around.  One of the boards was a little

catty wompus, so I shimmed it up.  

STEP 4:  I wanted our initials carved into the top like if it was in a tree trunk.

I drew it out on the computer and then used a scoring tool to carve

it into the top.  Pine is soft so it was real easy.  Then we used at little torch to 

burn the wood.  Which didn't work so we used a soldering iron.  We really

could have just skipped this as it didn't show through the stain anyways.  

STEP 5:  Now to the stain process.  I used General Finishes Java Gel and their 

recommended top coat.  I only did one coat of stain and 3 coats of top coat.  Sanding

with 320 (?) grit lightly between coats, wiping down thoroughly before the

next coat, allowing dry time of 3-4 hours.  Let it completely

dry for several days before use.  

I still need to get the side chairs done.  I want a bench for one side, which may be another homemade
project.  ;)

I am so thrilled with how it turned out.  Exactly how I imagined.

Up-cycling dining room table and chairs from a garage sale....

We recently moved upcountry and I am hooked on farmhouse decor for our beautiful new home.

Months ago before we moved I showed my hubby a picture of a farmhouse table on Pinterest and how I could take my new found hobby of chalk painting and create the same look for a lot less than the $1,500 - $3,000 ones I was finding online.  He really liked it and the very next day, on a local FB garage sale site in our area, a heavy pine table with leaf and 6 chairs with built in cushions were posted and I immediately snapped it up for $240.  It was meant to be!!  ;)  (I am never this lucky when it comes to these kind of things.)  hehe!

After months of holding it in storage I am now able to start working on it.  First off, I wanted to redo the chairs with the arms.  One for a guest room and one for my new desk chair.  So far I have got one done.  I will continue to show as I progress with all the different things I plan to do with the remaining pieces. Not all are going around the farmhouse table I will create soon.

So to start, here is the first chair I up-cycled for one of the guest rooms...

1.  First I clean them really well (they were pretty loved on by
previous owners children ;)  LOL!

2.  Applied 2 coats of Arles chalk paint from Annie Sloan.

3.  Waxed with one coat of clear wax, sand paper distressed and then applied a 50/50 mix of light
and dark wax.  Buffed with a circle brush mounted to my drill motor.

4.  Re-upholstered the seat cushion.

VIOLA!!!  Looks perfect in the guest room.  All the furniture is dark, so this just brightens it all up.  I am very happy with how it turned out.

Next I will tackle the table.  Until then...

Hello Crafty Friends!!

This month we celebrate the birth of our 2 beautiful daughters.  Born 3 years and 8 days apart.  I can't believe they are 27 and 24 already.  Where does the time go???

We had a great day with the whole family (except for our son and nephew that had to work and one aunt that couldn't make it, you  all were missed) that came up to celebrate.

Had to put a temporary craft studio together so I could at least get their cards made.  I have been in trouble these last few months for not hand making cards for everyone.  Who knew everyone loved getting one??  Makes me soooo happy.  :)  I love making them.

Sprucing up an old wreath for spring!

Tell me it isn't so?!?!  I really haven't blogged since October???!!!!  WHAT!!!

I know I have shared some stuff over on my facebook page, but hadn't realized I haven't posted anything here.

Well one of the reasons I know of is that we moved!!  So my craft studio has been boxed up for months and months.  I am still in the process of designing my new craft studio/office but haven't settled on a plan as of yet.  It's getting there though.  I did start unpacking some stuff though to keep me busy.  I want to unpack it all though.  :)

Well to get back in the swing of things I will share my first crafty project in a while.  My front door wreath was looking absolutely BLAH!!!  So I thought I would spruce it up by adding a few flowers to freshen it up for Spring.  I don't think it turned out half bad.

Now to tackle some birthday cards for my girls.  It's birthday month!!!  :)

Hello Crafty Friends!!

I got a Wacom Graphics Tablet from a local on-line garage sale here in our town.  I am sooooo excited.  I have been playing with it all day.  Can't wait to dive in and learn how to create my own custom digital creations and learn how to use in PhotoShop!!!

There is a huge learning curve for me, but I am up for the challenge. Already made a little holidy scene and a ghosty.  hehe.  Very rough, but I am sure I will get the hang of it eventually.  LOL!

4th Blogaversary and long overdue posting...

Hello Crafty Friends!!!

What a super busy few months I've been having.  Whew!!...I'm exhausted.  Time for a little down time and catch up on the blog.  I totally missed celebrating my 4th Blogaversary...WHAT?!?! IKR?! Oh well, there is always next year.  hehe

Lot's of new and exciting things going on around here that I will share soon, but until then, here is a really quick floral arrangement I made for the front door.  Just got a few fall floral groupings and VOILA!  Got to love Dollar Tree and Joann's 60% off sales.  :)
